Bilingual forms in the Police and Crime Commissioner election: The Welsh Language Commissioner’s response

A spokesperson on behalf of the Welsh Language Commissioner said:

“Under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 the Welsh language has official status in Wales.

“In May this year, the Welsh Language Commissioner wrote to the Home Office to ask what steps had been taken to ensure that the Welsh language had been properly taken into account in the forthcoming election arrangements. The Commissioner was assured in writing by the Home Office that this had been done.

“In August the Commissioner saw a draft of the Welsh language election forms.

“After reading the Electoral Commission’s briefing note today, the Commissioner will urgently set out to establish all the facts in this matter, however the Commissioner notes that there are 16 parliamentary sitting days available for the Welsh Forms Order to be passed.”
